Who am I?
My name is Anja. I come from a very small country named Slovenia. There are only about two millions of us living over here in a very picturesque piece of land. There are tons of ‘traditional dishes’, but we have to fight this title with our neigbouring countries. A traditional Slovenian kremšnita is known as their own ‘traditional’ dessert krémes in Hungary. Confusing I know, but it’s only a proof of our common history. Slovenian food is very heavy – meaty and starchy – meant for people working in the fields all day. Not a lot of vegetables and fresh fruit. And that’s what I’m trying to add to my recipes.
What I’m interested in other than cooking?
One of the biggest things is dancing, for sure. I do tribal fusion and a bit of contemporary dance. Together with my good dancing pals I’m running a dance group called Tribal Bizzare. I also have a big gang of friends. We’re all so different, but somehow we get along most of the times. They are with me all the time (on a big framed photo they gave me as a wedding gift). And I love to travel. I usually do it with my husband, sometimes I add a pinch of my friends. Currently my obsession is Italy. In the warm part of the year I do some cycling. Not tons, but there are some trips I could brag about (but I’m not going to). I’m a weirdo when it comes to books. I actually love to read, but I’m so picky that I somehow end up not reading as much as I’d like to. We have piles of magazines and comic books at home and I’m still geting through those. I also love photography and graphic design. Since I just started a food blog, I’m now deeply exploring the art of food photograpy. Maybe one day I’ll even be great at it. What else? I’m sure I forgot something important.
How I started cooking?
My mum’s a cook. And a very good one. But her cooking style is totally different than mine. Too much meat and not enough spices for my taste. As I grew up I wanted to make my own food, the way I liked it. At first it was just pancakes and eggs, but my repertoire grew bigger through years. And now I’m here still trying, failing, leaning. A lot!
Why Use Your Noodles?
I like to think about my food, not just dump anything that comes my way in my mouth. Well, sometimes! And I like to get the most out of my time. Sometimes I only have a few minutes to prep my meal. What do I do? I enter a useyournoodles mode and think of the ingredients and cooking methods that allow me to prepare a fully delicious and nutricious meal in that time. And believe me you can do a lot in only half an hour or even 15 minutes. Other times I have lots of time and make something more complicated. So I’ll be sharing recipes that take only a bit of your time to the ones that will take a lot
What kind of recipes can you find here?
The idea behind this blog is to share a mixture of everything, because this is how I eat. The recipes here are versatile, there’s meat, but there’s also a lot of veggies and fruit. You can find a lot of vegeterian and vegan recipes here as well, so there’s something for everyone. If possible please choose local and organic, it’s much healthier and you are doing something for the environment as well. If you want recipe for anything in particular, I’d love to hear it. Write me.
